SEREMBAN, May 18 — DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook was today named transport minister in the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Cabinet line-up.

Loke, 41, joined DAP in 1994 as an ordinary member before being elected as DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief and continued to shine as Negri Sembilan DAP chairman from 2004 until now.

In the 11th general election (GE11) in 2004, he won the Lobak state seat, and during the party polls, he won the contest as DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) member and was appointed as DAP Political Education director for the 2004/2007 term.

In the 2008 general election, Loke retained his Lobak seat and won the Rasah parliamentary seat, while in the party polls, he was re-elected as CEC member and was also appointed DAP Political Education Bureau secretary.

In 2012 party polls, he was reelected as DAP CEC member for the third term and was appointed as DAP organising secretary and represented the party in the Pakatan Rakyat Bureau.

In the 2013 general election, Loke moved to contest the Seremban parliamentary seat and Chennah state seat in Jelebu, and won both seats.

In the party polls, he was reelected as CEC member and reappointed as DAP organising secretary, while at the same time, being a member of DAP Election Bureau and Pakatan Rakyat Bureau.

In the recently concluded 14th general election, Loke retained both his Seremban and Chennah seats for the second term.

Born in Seremban on April 28, 1977, Loke received his primary and secondary education at St Paul’s Institution before entering Form Six at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Ampangan.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Universiti Malaya (UM). — Bernama
