MELAKA, May 11 — Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief, Adly Zahari, was sworn in today as the chief minister (CM) of Melaka, after PH acquired a simple majority in the state assembly during GE14.

The ceremony, which was witnessed and officiated by Melaka Yang Di-Pertua Negeri (TYT) Tun Mohd Khalil Yaacob, was held at the Dewan Seri Utama within the compound of the TYT’s office.

Adly, the 11th appointed CM of the state, only recited one oath for his position as CM.

Adly, who won the Bukit Katil state seat with a majority of 3,159 votes, was sworn in as CM at exactly 3.58pm, with the brief ceremony ending less than 10 minutes later.

The 47-year-old has been part of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) since 2015, and was only appointed state PH leader in 2017, a position that he still holds.

This comes after the PH coalition, consisting of PKR, DAP, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and Amanah, won 15 out of 28 state seats during the general election on May 9.

The remaining 13 seats were won by Opposition coalition, Barisan Nasional, whose state election team was spearheaded by former CM Datuk Idris Haron.
