KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Prime Minister designate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place tonight at 9.30pm.

In an official statement, the National Palace also refuted allegations that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had delayed Dr Mahathir’s appointment as PM.

“His Majesty looks forward to working with Tun Dr Mahathir and his administration for the betterment of our nation and all its people,” the statement read.

Earlier today, Dr Mahathir was seen entering the National Palace along with a slew of other elected Pakatan Harapan MPs.Supporters of Pakatan Harapan gather in front of Istana Negara in anticipation of the swearing-in of Pakatan Harapan leader Tun Dr Mahathir as the 7th prime minister of Malaysia, May 10, 2018. — Picture by Azneal Ishak

Dr Mahathir entered at 4.40pm to loud cheers from his supporters who had gathered along the road leading to the palace.

Dr Mahathir came in a black Perdana limousine bearing the number plate Proton 2020, which was the number plate of his old premier vehicle, accompanied by police outriders.

Dr Mahathir was dressed in an all-black Baju Melayu, accompanied in the car by wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, who was dressed in a baju kurung.

Seen entering the palace in the same entourage with Dr Mahathir, among others, was Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Nurul Izzah Anwar and incumbent Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was also accompanied by his wife.

The leaders were mostly decked various shades of black, with the male leaders wearing songkok.

It is understood that Dr Mahathir has left the National Palace, and will return later for the official ceremony.
