KUAH, April 28 — It’s official: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be contesting the Langkawi parliamentary seat, and faces Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Nawawi Ahmad and PAS’s Zubir Ahmad.
Rogue Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) member Mohd Ratu Mansor will be contesting the Kuah state seat as an independent, and will face PKR’s Mohd Firdaus Ahmad, BN’s incumbent Nor Saidi Nanyan and PAS’s Mazlan Ahmad.
There were rumours earlier that Mohd Ratu may contest against Dr Mahathir.
Mohd Ratu, a Langkawi PPBM committee member, had this week insisted that he was meant to be Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) pick for the Kuah state seat, instead of PKR’s Mohd Firdaus Ahmad.
In Ayer Hangat, BN incumbent Datuk Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid will square off against Azlina Azinan (PAS) and Johari Bulat (PKR).
At 8.45am this morning, around 2,000 supporters greeted Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali at the nomination centre, amid loud cheers of “Long live Tun” and “Reformasi.”
Dr Mahathir wore a red baju Melayu and sampin, the official colour of PPBM.
BN’s Nawawi defeated PKR candidate Ahmad Abdullah in a straight fight with a majority of 11,861 votes in GE13.
