KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — PKR vice president and Universiti Selangor (Unisel) deputy vice chancellor Shaharuddin Badaruddin will now be contesting Seri Setia, and not Kota Anggerik.

Shaharuddin confirmed on his Facebook page that he would be contesting Seri Setia and had received an appointment letter from PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Shaharuddin was initially listed as the PKR candidate for the Kota Anggerik state seat when the announcement for PKR candidates in Selangor was made two days ago by Dr Wan Azizah.

According to a Malaysiakini report, Shaharuddin had swapped the seat with PKR Youth leader Najwan Halimi.

Najwan, who was initially listed to contest Seri Setia, will now contest Kota Anggerik instead.

The report, quoting sources, said that the swap was done by the party at the request of Shaharuddin himself.

Najwan previously worked as an aide to outgoing two-term Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is moving to the federal level to contest the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat.

Nik Nazmi won with a majority of 4,663 votes in the 2013 elections.

Outgoing two-term Kota Anggerik assemblyman Yaakob Sapari, meanwhile, won with a similar 4,500 vote majority in the 2013 polls.

Yaakob has been dropped as a candidate for this election.
