PASIR GUDANG, April 6 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) announced the component party logo that all of its candidates will use in the general election here tonight.

PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said they would all use PKR’s logo for GE14.

PH component party DAP already said yesterday it would not be using its “rocket” logo in peninsular Malaysia for the 14th general election, a first since its formation.

“I am very happy that something that would have otherwise been impossible has been achieved (today).

“It is my pleasure to announce to Malaysia and the world that Pakatan Harapan, including Bersatu, will share PKR’s symbol,” he said at a massive ceramah at Taman Bukit Dahlia here, which was attended by some 5,000-odd supporters.

Present at the Johor Pakatan Harapan Tour (Jelajah Pakatan Harapan Johor) event tonight were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir said it was not easy for the three component parties to drop their respective party symbols in favour of the PKR logo for the coming GE14.

“DAP has used the ‘rocket’ symbol for almost 60 years. The other component parties love their respective symbols, but because we want to unite, these four parties will use a common symbol,” he said.

The 93-year-old former premier also urged supporters to choose the PKR logo for the coming general election.

In February, Dr Mahathir said that all of the PH pact’s parties will deploy a common logo for the polls even if the Registrar of Societies (RoS) does not recognise the coalition in time for its symbol to be usable.

The regulator has held off on the approval, citing continued problems with Dr Mahathir’s PPBM over alleged failures in documentation.

During the event, the mixed crowd from all backgrounds was seen gathering at the Taman Bukit Dahlia park as early as 8pm.

Dr Mahathir arrived at the park by 9pm to a rousing crowd. He was seen wearing a PKR lapel pin, pointing towards his support and the official announcement.

Many of those who attended had expected PH to make a major announcement on candidates, but only Amanah named their candidates for Johor.
