IPOH, Feb 20 — Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab has played host to several ‘parades’ over the years, but not many have involved criminals facing their day in court.

That changed today, as 36 alleged secret society members were transported to the Ipoh lower court complex on a convoy of police vehicles this morning.

The 36 suspects are expected to be charged later today, for being a member and assisting an organised criminal group under Section 130V of the Penal Code.

The suspects left the central lockup at the Perak police contingent at around 8.50am aboard three ‘Black Maria’ vehicles.

Two police trucks and several police cars were present to securely escort the suspects along the 450m journey to the courthouse.

In total, over 100 police personnel were estimated to be on hand to monitor the passage of the suspects.

Traffic police temporarily closed off parts of Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab and Jalan Sultan Iskandar while the convoy went past — attracting curious glances from onlookers.

Yesterday, Malay Mail reported that the secret society members were linked to numerous murders, extortions, robberies, arson and drug trafficking offences.

They were taken into custody following a special crackdown on organised crime in the state codenamed Ops Cantas Silver I.

Among the high profile murder cases they were involved in include the shooting of a Datin Seri and her eight-year-old daughter in Kuala Lumpur on July 6, 2016.

Police also seized jewelleries, cash, properties, bank accounts and vehicles worth about RM4.5 million from the suspects.
