JOHOR BARU, Feb 2 — The levy rate for commercial vehicles using the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (Linkedua) has been reduced from RM200 to RM50 with immediate effect.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the matter was decided during the cabinet meeting last week.

“The reduction in the rate (at Linkedua) is aimed at reducing congestion at the Johor Causeway as many motorists who travelled from Johor to work in Singapore have informed that traffic at the Johor Causeway is worrying.

“To overcome the congestion at the Johor Causeway, the Government has agreed to cut RM150 off the levy rate for commercial vehicles using Linkedua,” he said, adding that the government was confident that many transport companies would use Linkedua,” he told reporters after attending the Johor Umno Liaison Body meeting here.

Ab Aziz said the reduction in the levy was only set at Linkedua, and the levy at the Johor Causeway would remain at RM200.

According to Ab Aziz, the Transport Ministry had no accurate data on the number of commercial vehicles using the Johor Causeway and Linkedua to Singapore on a daily basis, however, it was expected that at least half of the commercial vehicles currently using the Johor Causeway would now shift to Linkedua following the reduction of the levy. — Bernama
