KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 — A 15-year-old boy died instantly after he was struck in the head by a chair believed to have been hurled off a balcony of at a low-cost apartment here yesterday.

According to Berita Harian, S. Sathiwaran, a student from SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya, had been walking home from school with his mother to their flat on the 16th floor of the Blok 102 of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Pantai Dalam when the 8.30pm incident happened.

According to an unnamed source, the two were about to reach the stairs when the object — a blue desk chair — fell from an unknown height and hit the schoolboy directly.

It also struck his mother.

“Due to the impact, the victim suffered serious injuries to his head and died on the spot. The mother, however, survived,” the source was quoted as saying.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Khalid, in the same report, said police will investigate the matter under Section 304 the Penal Code pertaining to deaths caused by reckless or negligent behaviour.

No suspects have yet been identified.
