KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — Six students from the Malaysian National Defence University (UPNM) were prosecuted today for the horrible death of 21-year-old Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain.
Five of them — Muhammad Akmal Zuhairi Azmal, Azamuddin Md Sofi, Muhammad Najib Mohd Razi, Muhammad Afif Najmudin Azahat and Mohamad Shobirin Sabri — were charged with murdering their university mate, under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The sixth, Abdoul Hakeem Mohd Ali, was charged with abetment under Section 109 of the same law, read together with Section 302.
The six were also charged with voluntarily causing hurt to force a confession from Zulfarhan in a dispute over the alleged theft of a laptop between 4.45am and 5.45am on May 22 at the university hostel.
No plea was recorded from the six, The Star reported on its website.
No bail was offered either.
Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin has scheduled the case for mention on August 14.
The Star also reported that 13 others were also charged with voluntarily causing hurt, but did not name them.
Zulfarhan, a final year student, died on June 1, believed the victim of extreme bullying.
He was found unconscious with bruises and burnt marks all over his body, including his genitals and rushed to the Serdang Hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 10pm that day.
