TAWAU, April 2 —  Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan suggests that property and housing developers take the initiative to boost sports hand-in-hand with the state government.

He said, among others the suggestion included developing infrastructure and facilities which could impact positively on sports development.

“I want developers to emulate Hap Seng Properties Development Sdn Bhd which built a RM10 million Sports and Community Complex without waiting for allocation from the state government,” he told reporters after launching the Bandar Sri Indah Sports and Community Complex here today.

The construction of the complex was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to promote a healthy lifestyle among the people in Tawau.

Tawfiq said the complex has four badminton courts, two futsal courts, a gymnasium, a children playground, a jogging track and a basketball court.

“The international class facility should be adopted as a benchmark for other developers rather than dwelling on profits all the time,” he said. — Bernama
