SINGAPORE, Jan 3 — A 31-year-old man was arrested after he tried to smuggle two bags of heroin into Singapore at the Woodlands Checkpoint early yesterday morning.

The Malaysian motorcyclist was stopped for checks at about 3.40am when he arrived at the checkpoint, and an immigration officer found one bag of heroin during inspection. Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers later found another bag of heroin.

The total heroin haul weighed about 460g with an estimated worth of S$32,000 (RM99,225).

If found guilty, the man could face the death penalty.

The Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked is 15g or more. — TODAY
