KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — After six years of toil and labour, former beauty queen Soo Wincci has finally received her PhD in business administration from Open University Malaysia (OUM).

The 31-year-old was also recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the first Miss Malaysia to receive a doctorate.

Having had to juggle her entertainment career and studies, Soo said she nearly gave up on the latter, and could not hold back tears when her lecturer told her she had passed.

“I could not control my emotions the moment I was told by my thesis supervisor that I had passed.

“For the first time in my life I cried non-stop for an hour from the memory of the six year journey to achieve my ambition of holding a doctorate,” Soo was quoted as telling The Star Online news portal.

Having received her scroll at OUM’s convocation ceremony at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday, Soo went on to liken her achievement to a ‘solo wedding’.

“At my age, a lot of my friends have become Mrs or Mr. For me, I became a doctor. It’s what I have always dreamt of.
