KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — The pen drive provided by the crown prince of Johor did not contain any indication of wrongdoing at the Malaysian Football Association (FAM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said today.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin submitted the item to the commission last week, after receiving it from Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibrahim who alleged that it contained evidence of abuse at the FAM.
“The examination of the pen drive handed over by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on September 2 found that it contained no evidence of corruption according of the MACC Act 2009.
“As a result, the MACC will provide a report of the investigation to the FAM soon for its improvement process and further action, especially on the technical issues raised,” it said in a statement today.
The commission also said it was ready to cooperate with the FAM and other parties on related matters, in the event these involve elements of corruption.
On Friday, Khairy said he had wanted to reveal the contents of the pen drive, but was asked by the MACC to hold off from doing so until it concluded its investigation.
He declined to say then if the item contained evidence of corruption, but pointed out that he had previously stated that the information within mainly concerned technical issues at the FAM.
Tunku Ismail previously allegedly that the pen drive contained information of abuses at the association that dated back three decades.
Among others, these involved ticket sales for the FA Cup final and Malaysia Cup final last season.
The Johor royal is involved in a long-running dispute with the FAM that traces to the move by key Johor players to retire early from international football following complaints of a poor national training regime.
