In a statement today, PWD said the incident will not affect their preparations and the contractor will bear any additional cost from the three-month delay.
“The collapse of roof trusses at the velodrome in Nilai will not affect the preparations for the Sea Games 2017 because based on preliminary review, the design is in order with minimum improvement to enhance stability. However, it will caused a slight delay in the construction work of about 3 months,” PWD said.
“Public Works Department (JKR) would like to reiterate that there shall be no additional cost incurred to the Government and any additional works and costs due to the incident shall be borne fully by the Contractor.”
PWD also said they will have the structures checked thoroughly before installation following the roof collapse which occurred last Saturday.
We will ensure that the works are always at the highest standards, they added.
On Monday, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin confirmed the incident and also said that it will result in delay for construction work which was expected to be completed by August this year.
