KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Malaysians need to give Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak a chance to lead the country and if unsatisfied, only make a change at the next general election, columnist Ridhuan Tee Abdullah said today.
He said a few scandals would not bankrupt Malaysia but allowing the “ultra kiasu” to reign could destroy the nation.
“Give him (Najib) a chance. If he fails, the public has the right to act during the GE14. It won’t be long from now.
“This country will not go bankrupt just because of a few ‘scandals’. But the country will be destroyed if the ultra kiasu are in cahoots,” he said in his column in Malay daily Sinar Harian today.
He added that because the “ultra kiasu” were so widespread, especially in Penang, he urged the Sultan of Kedah to reclaim the state from the DAP.
“As such, I appeal, request and beg Duli Tuanku Sultan Kedah, please take back this blessed island... Take pity on the Muslims there who are increasingly oppressed,” he added.
Penang was previously under the reign of the Kedah sultanate until it became a British colony in 1786, after which it became part of the Federation of Malaya in 1957.
Tee also urged the Muslims to unite and stand up for their rights before they are completely taken over by the “ultra kiasu”.
“It is only by uniting can we frighten and subdue them,” he said.
“Ultra kiasu” is a term Tee initially used to label federal opposition party DAP, but he has since applied it to other groups including Christians and the Chinese in general as well as those he regards as against Islam.
Najib has been facing immense criticism over a number of issues, chiefly the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and RM2.6 billion political donation controversies.
