KUALA LUMPUR, March 14- Over 800,000 Malaysians have been blacklisted and barred from leaving the country over various offences from 2011 to this year, the Home Ministry said today.
In a written reply to Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa, the ministry revealed that 827,921 citizen were barred from travelling for offences such as failure to pay up their government study loans, security reasons and bankruptcy.
“200,727 people have been blacklisted for bankruptcy, 118,892 for study loan related offences, 520 over security issues and 507, 782 for various others.
“All those blacklisted are banned from leaving the country, except those who obtain permission from necessary authorities, related to their offences,” the ministry added.
Er had asked the ministry to state the number of Malaysians who have been blacklisted and barred from leaving the country according to states, and reasons for such decisions from 2011 to this year.
