PARIT BUNTAR, Jan 26 — A RM110 million water treatment plant will be built in Sungai Rawa here to accommodate growing demand for clean water supply for Kerian residents.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the demand for clean water by the residents in the area is expected to increase from 79 million litres per day now to 125 million litres per day by the year 2030.
He said the project was being carried out in three packages, with the first package having commenced in October last year with the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 40 million litres per day costing RM66.88 million.
“The main scope of work for Phase Two will cover the construction of the intake point of the Bagan Serai Grand Canal with a capacity of 130 million litres per day and the construction of a new pumping station.
“The third phase covers the construction of crude pipelines with adjacent access way along the eight-kilometre pipeline from the intake point to the Sungai Rawa Water Treatment Plant from the Sungai Bogak Water Tank,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sungai Rawa Water Treatment Plant, here today. — Bernama
