KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 — The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) detained a Muslim woman and three men for consuming alcohol during 1am raid yesterday.
According to the local daily Kosmo, a civil servant was among the four nabbed by Jawi in its raid of an unnamed Jalan Lumut entertainment outlet that is favoured by middle-aged Muslims for entertainment and alcohol consumption.
The 40-year-old civil servant, who was found to have a firearm that did not belong to him, has been handed over to the police for further action.
The report did not specify the religious status of the three males nabbed over the offence of drinking alcohol - which is considered haram or forbidden in Islam.
Jawi’s chief enforcement officer Wan Jaafar Wan Ahmad was reported saying that the department had carried out the raid after receiving complaints that this particular outlet was the main entertainment spot for Muslims.
“When the raid was carried out, we find that some of them come together with their wife and lover for entertainment together,” he was quoted saying by the paper.
He also said Jawi’s intelligence-gathering showed that this entertainment outlet is a favourite spot for Muslims aged between 40 to 50 years old.
