IPOH, Nov 27 — Murdered deputy public prosecutor Kevin Anthony Morais will be conferred the ‘’Datuk’’ title posthumously by Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today.

The title is being conferred on Kevin in conjunction with the Ruler’s 59th birthday. Kevin’s brother Datuk Richard Morais is expected to accept the award at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

Announcing the list of current and posthumous recipients, state secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan said Kevin, 55, was one of six recipients of posthumous titles from Perak.

He will be conferred the Darjah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak. Other posthumous title recipients are Umno founder Datuk Onn Jaafar (Darjah Seri Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini), first Menteri Besar of Perak Datuk Panglima Bukit Gantang Abdul Wahab Toh Muda Aziz (Darjah Seri Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini), former Perak police chief Tan Sri Khoo Chong Kong (Darjah Seri Panglima Taming Sari), former education director-general and a luminary in the field of education Aminuddin Baki (Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak) and famous pre-independence nationalist Dr Burhanuddin Al-Helmy (Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak). The five will be conferred Datuk Seri titles.

This is the first time that a Perak ruler is conferring posthumous titles.

Abdul Puhat said the decision to confer such titles was made by Sultan Nazrin Shah.

“Tuanku himself chose the recipients for the titles,” he said, adding that the conferment of the titles would be done today.

Abd Puhat said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would be conferred the Darjah Seri Paduka Sultan Nazrin Shah.

“The award carries the title Datuk Seri Diraja. He is the sole recipient of this title which is being conferred for the first time. A total of 39 people will receive (Datuk Seri and Datuk) title awards. These include the six who will receive their titles posthumously.”
