KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — KLIA and KLIA2 will become the first international airports in Asean region to use electric vehicles when the Neutral Carbon Airport Project is implemented next year.

The proposal to replace existing vehicles with electric vehicles was presented by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) at the second meeting of the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Council here, today.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said the Photo Voltaic Solar Hybrid System and generator sets at Mulu Airport, Sarawak will also be implemented under the project.

“Both initiatives are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 3,964t/CO2e (tonne carbon dioxide equivalent) per year.

“The ministry will give full cooperation to realise the initiative by providing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations at KLIA and KLIA2,” he told a press conference after the meeting here, today.
