KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has officially given its nod to Parti Amanah Negara's name change application, party president Mohamad Sabu said today in Penang.
According to The Star Online, the former PAS deputy president told a press conference in Komtar that the application to rename Parti Pekerja Malaysia was accepted and approved by the agency today.
“We've just received the good news today. Therefore, it is now official that PAN is an official party,” the news portal quoted Mohamad or “Mat Sabu” as saying.
He was also quoted saying that he was confident the RoS will approve Amanah's application to replace the title of “chairman” to “president” instead.
Last month when Amanah was still known as “Gerakan Harapan baru,” Mat Sabu announced the party's formation as a re-branding of the dormant Malaysian Workers’ Party (MWP), and said that it would register its new name with the RoS.
Amanah is now part of the newly-launched Pakatan Harapan pact that was established to replace the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
Amanah is made up of former leaders in the progressive faction of Islamist PAS.
