ALOR STAR, March 1 — The police have detected a new tactic used in online gambling games, following a raid on an Internet centre in Jalan Batas Paip on Friday.
Kedah CID chief, ACP Mohd Nashir Ya said the modus operandi required players to make a phone call to the organiser, namely the gambling website provider to obtain the latter’s account number to enable them to make minimum bets of RM10.
He said the organiser would provide a username and password to the players, allowing them to gamble online at any area which had Internet access.
“On winning, the player will be in touch with the organiser to obtain an account number and the organiser will pass him the winnings,” he told reporters at a press conference here today.
In the raid about 4.30am, 15 gamblers, aged between 13 to 45, were detained along with a 23-year-old security guard.
The police also seized 27 computers worth about RM80,000, RM32 and six pieces of CIMB bank deposit slips. — Bernama
