MACHANG, Feb 20 ― A total of 2,600 families who lost their houses in the floods which hit Kelantan last December will get to move into their new home before Ramadan this year, which is in June.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the federal government would build 2,000 houses, while the remaining by the state government.
“All those who lost their home will get the house, regardless of their political affiliation and religion,” he told reporters after presenting house keys to flood victims at Desa Rahmat here today.
Ahmad, who is joint chairman of the Kelantan Post-Flood Committee, said the state government would cooperate with the federal government and set aside their political differences to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has given the assurance to ensure flood victims who lost their home can get to move into their new house as soon as possible,” he added.
On non-governmental organisations keen to contribute houses to flood victims, Ahmad said the house should have three rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room. ― Bernama
