KUANTAN, Nov 18 — In what was probably the first goldsmith shop to be hit by robbers in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, the perpetrators were crest-fallen as they escaped empty-handed, only to be caught by the police within 24 hours.

In short, the hold-up yesterday was a case of ‘so near, and yet so far’ for the bumbling robbers.

Three of the suspects were nabbed yesterday evening, while the other surrendered at the Brinchang police station at 10am today.

Cameron Highlands police chief DSP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said in the robbery about 10.30am yesterday, four masked men armed with sharp objects robbed a goldsmith shop of an undisclosed amount of money in Ringlet.

He said in their haste to make a quick getaway, the black Proton Wira in which the robbers were travelling in, collided with a Hilux four-wheel drive vehicle.

“Within minutes, their car was rammed by a Proton Saga taxi, causing the robbers to abandon the loot and escape on foot.

“A police team detained two of the suspects in a nearby forest while another was nabbed at a vacant house between 3pm and 7pm yesterday.

“The last suspect surrendered to the police this morning,” he told Bernama here.

The suspects, aged between 20 and in their 30’s, have been remanded at the Cameron Highlands police headquarters to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
