PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9  — The decision to charge a person or not in the court is made based on evidence and facts and not on the religious background, race or political inclination of the person concerned, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said today.

In a statement issued here today, she said the decision was made fairly and without favouring any parties and based on integrity to ensure justice for the victim, witness, accused and the public.

She said this in response to her written answer to Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) in the Dewan Rakyat last Tuesday on why action was not taken against Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali.

Nancy said several articles in the social media had posted the written answer to Lim, but only excerpts of it.

“The irresponsible quarters only quoted parts of the answer that it creates misinterpretation and misunderstanding of the real meaning intended,” she added.

She said the decision by the Attorney-General Chambers to not prosecute Ibrahim was because the context of his speech was in line with the spirit in Article 11(4) of the Federal Constitution.

“The decision to not charge Ibrahim was taken after considering the outcome of the investigation by the police,” she added.

With the explanation, Nancy hoped the people could see the government’s transparency in handling legal process and for them to stay calm and not to issue statements or do things that could undermine harmony and hurt the feelings of the country’s multi-racial community. — Bernama
