KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Three men linked to certain quarters to take Sabah out of Malaysia, have been ordered to undergo detention at a rehabilitation centre for not more than two years.  This was announced by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in a statement here today.

He named them as Malaysians Abu Bakar Jayari and Zainuddin Mislani, and a Philippine illegal immigrant, Kassim Ibrahim.

According to the statement, the police detained the trio on July 22, under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Act 297).

They were believed to have joined a Sulu Sultanate group, an illegal group which aspired to take Sabah out of the Federation of Malaysia.

“In addition, they were also believed to have recruited new members as an early preparation to demand for Sabah, on behalf of the Sultanate of Sulu,” said Khalid.

According to the inspector-general of police, the order to undergo detention of not more than two years was made under Section 19A of the act, which was issued yesterday. — Bernama
