KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 17 — The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin today urged the people to be always wary of elements trying to change the existing harmonious landscape by raising issues relating to Islam, the sovereignty of the Malay rulers and the position of Bahasa Melayu.
The Sultan also called on all parties to stop all acts of provocation which could threaten peace and security in the state so that the calm enjoyed all this while could continue to prevail.
“I wish to state by highest appreciation for my government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman who has strived to maintain peace and prosperity in this state.
“I also thank all the people who have shown their loyalty to me and this is indeed symbolic of the close and deep relationship between the royal institution and the masses.”
Sultan Mizan said this in his address at the investiture ceremony at Istana Syarqiyyah, here, today in conjunction with his 52nd birthday celebration.
Also present at the ceremony were the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah, the menteri besar and his wife Toh Puan Halina Zakaria, State Secretary Datuk Mazlan Ngah, members of the royalty, state executive councillors, state assemblymen and other dignitaries.
Sultan Mizan expressed hope that the state government would fulfil its promises and responsibilities entrusted to it, in line with the vision of making Terengganu a developed state by 2020.
“This requires the involvement and participation of all parties and thorough studies presented to the people in a transparent manner in getting the mandate and feedback for the benefit of all.
“In improving the state’s economy through various high-impact industries, I hope the agriculture, livestock breeding and fishery sectors will not be sidelined but instead, those involved must play an effective role in the use of the latest and environment-friendly technology,” he said.
Sultan Mizan said he also wanted the state government to bring back glory to the agriculture sector in Terengganu by exploring new technology and new fields with the potential for development. — Bernama
