KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — HSBC has returned more than RM110,000 belonging to three passengers and a cabin crew who were on board Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. The amount had been siphoned away with the involvement of its own bank officer and gang.

HSBC head of communications Marlene Kaur said the money belonging to two Malaysians — Hue Pui Heng, 66, and MAS crew member Tan Size Hiang, 46 — and two China nationals — Ju Kun, 32, and Tian Jun Wei, 29 — was deposited back by the bank yesterday.

“We assure the families that there will be no losses on these accounts. We take security matters of customers’ accounts very seriously and proactive measures are under way to ensure such an incident does not happen again,” she said in an email to Malay Mail.

“HSBC is also deeply sorry for this incident and we apologise to the families of our customers for the distress this incident has caused.”

HSBC reported the incident to the police after discovering the money had been stolen from the four victims’ accounts.
