SEBERANG PERAI, Aug 7 — Malaysian police will be asking Interpol to assist them in tracing eight foreigners who had taken part in a nude event at the Penang National Park, said Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi.

He said Bukit Aman will be contacting Interpol to assist in their investigations into a nude event held at the park here.

“We will be seeking Interpol to help us trace the foreigners from Myanmar, Philippines, India and Singapore,” he said.

The eight foreigners, along with seven Malaysians, were filmed frolicking in the buff at a secluded beach in the national park.

The video clip, titled Penang Nude Sports Games 2014, was uploaded online about two months ago but recently became viral, creating an uproar amongst several groups and the public.

The five-minute video showed a group of people participating in various activities such as body painting and outdoor games on the beach in the nude at Teluk Kampi in the park at Teluk Bahang.

Abdul Rahim said the seven Malaysians in the video is yet to step forward to have their statements recorded.

“If they do not come forward voluntarily by tomorrow, the Crime Investigation Department will release their photos along with their identification card numbers to the press to ask for public assistance to trace them,” he said in a brief press conference after the closing ceremony of Ops Selamat here.

The police has also identified the organiser behind the event, a local man in his 50s, and will be calling him in for questioning soon.

“We will be able to trace all of the 15 people identified in the video clip even if they do not come forward,” Abdul Rahim said.

“We have recorded 14 statements from 13 individuals to assist in our investigations,” he added.

The national park watchman, who is believed to be present when the event was held in May, was also called in to give his statement.

The national park management is also conducting an internal inquiry into the incident to find out why the watchman did not report the event to the management or the police.

The park also has the list of 15 names of the participants of the event as all visitors to the park has to enter their names before entering the park.

They were believed to have taken a boat ride to the secluded beach of Teluk Kampi where they held their event.

“We are also investigating how they are promoting or spreading information on the event to get participants from different countries,” Abdul Rahim added.
