KOTA KINABALU, June 16 — Sabah police detained two suspects believed to be engaged in accepting bets worth RM10,000, involving the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, after two separate raids in Penampang, on Saturday.

Sabah CID chief ACP Omar Mamah said during the first raid on Saturday, a 26-year-old was detained at a phone-repair shop with RM10,000, believed to be money from illegal betting for the World Cup.

“Also seized were a computer, hand phone and cash,” he told reporters here today.

Omar said a 24-year-old was detained at a sundry shop yesterday with a note book used for recording bets involving the World Cup.

Betting on football matches is illegal in Malaysia and even those who place bets on betting websites that are legal in other countries will face action. — Bernama
