PETALING JAYA, June 15 — Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said as a father, he understands the anguish the family members of those onboard Flight MH370 are going through today.

The acting transport minister said Father’s Day which coincides with the 100th day of the plane’s disappearance was made worse as the families are still clueless as to where their loved ones are.

“Incidents like this remind us of the fragility of life, and to value ties that bind us together. In tragedy we forget our differences, and in our common grief we strengthen our bonds,” Hishammuddin said in a press statement yesterday.

He also said the search was unprecedented in sheer scale and complexity, involving 26 countries.

“As the search transitions to a more challenging phase, we reaffirm our commitment with renewed vigour to locate the missing MH370.”

Hishammuddin believed the country would be credited for doing the best possible under the circumstances and that history will favour the country for all its efforts.

He thanked the governments of Australia, China, Asean neighbours and the United States among others, for all the assistance that were provided in the search operation.

“On behalf of the Malaysian people, we thank all those who have helped us in our effort to locate the plane and we will continue praying for your safety in navigating the unchartered waters.”

With no trace of the plane since it went missing en route to Beijing on March 8, Hishammuddin said he would not rest until it is found, and he would not abandon the families of all those on board the ill-fated plane.

“We will, with the grace of God, find this missing plane and so with it begins the process of healing.”
