KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — The police are still checking a just-released Filipino hostage for possible involvement in her abduction and that of a Chinese tourist from Sabah two months ago, state police chief Datuk Hamza Taib said today.
Marcy Dayawan @ Mimi will be repatriated to the Philippines once it is ascertained the 40-year-old resort worker was not part of the incident, he said.
“If we are sure that Mimi was not involved in the Singamata resort kidnap, she will be sent back to her family in the Philippines,” he was quoted saying by The Star’s website.
Hamza said Dayawan has since been interviewed by state and federal police.
According to The Star, Dayawan did not possess a work permit or valid travel documents during her employment at the Singamata Reef Resort.
The other hostage released yesterday, 29-year-old Chinese tourist Gao Hua Yuan, is expected to return to China today.
Gao and Dayawan were abducted from the Singamata Reef Resort near Semporna on April 2 by a group of suspected Filipino militants and held hostage until yesterday.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced that the two women have been released by their captors, adding that no ransom was paid to secure their freedom.
Malaysia’s Home Ministry said in April that the authorities were negotiating with the kidnappers who had demanded 500 million pesos (RM36.4 million) in exchange for Gao.
