GEORGE TOWN, May 4 — A Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) department director incurred a loss of more than RM21,000 after his house in Changkat Minden, Gelugor was robbed by three armed men, believed to be foreigners, here early this morning.
The 52-year-old victim, his wife and four children were traumatised but unharmed after being tied up by the masked men wearing gloves and wielding machetes.
“The victim was woken up by noises outside his bedroom door. Upon checking he was confronted by one of the robbers who then woke the rest of the family and tied them up,” said a police spokesman.
The children were 18, 17, 10 and five years old.
He said the men, who were speaking in Indonesian, had ransacked the house and fled with valuables worth RM21,000, including RM2,000 in cash.
The incident was confirmed by North-East district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid, when contacted. — Bernama
