KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — The Toyota Alphard carrying the late Karpal Singh lost control on a straight stretch of the North-South Expressway before ramming into a lorry, fatally wounding the DAP lawmaker and his aide.
According to details of a police investigation report into the deadly crash from this morning, the multi-purpose vehicle in which the Bukit Gelugor MP and three others were travelling was approaching a crest on the road on clear night when skidded and collided with a Mitsubishi Canter.
“Early investigations revealed that the MPV with four people on board that was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh lost control and rammed the rear right end of a the lorry that was in the left lane and headed in the same direction,” according to the report by Kampar OCPD Supt Ng Kong Soon
The collision ripped open the left side of the MPV where Karpal and long-time aide, Michael Cornelius, are believed to have been seated, and caused injuries that killed both on the spot.
An Indonesian domestic helper who was also in the vehicle, sustained injuries.
Police are still determining the cause of the accident and probing the traffic records of both vehicles involved.
The bodies were later brought to Ipoh Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
