Petaling Jaya, March 13 — The water level in all dams in Selangor continue to decrease with the dam at Sungai Selangor giving the authorities cause for concern.
Yesterday, the level at Sungai Selangor was 40.99 per cent compared to 43.87 per cent a week ago.
A Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) spokesman said the control level for water dams should not go below 45 per cent.
“Anything lower would be worrying,” he said.
The authorities are hoping there would be a break in the dry season as the Meteorological Department has forecast rain in Selangor tomorrow.
The water levels at the other dams in in Batu was 90.78 per cent (91.09 last Thursday), Klang Gates 51.72 per cent (52.70), Langat 62.39 per cent (67.16), Semenyih 78.15 per cent (81.66), Sg Tinggi 71.79 per cent (75.17) and Tasik Subang 92.10 per cent (95.28).
The state government had decided on March 6 to kick off phase three of the water rationing to improve raw water emission reduction from 200 million litres per day (MLD ) to 500 MLD from the Sungai Selangor dam and 30 MLD from the Klang Gates dam.
The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) approved the third stage of the water rationing exercise which started on Monday and is scheduled for a two-day on two-day off pattern until March 31.
The rationing exercise affects almost 2.9 million users in Gombak , Kuala Lumpur , Petaling , Klang/Shah Alam , Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor.
