KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — Former Penang Northeast police chief SAC Gan Kong Meng today assumed duties as Kuala Lumpur CID chief, taking over from Datuk Ku Chin Wah who has been transferred to the Bukit Aman Management Division.
The handing over of duty was witnessed by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh and his deputy, Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh.
Batu Pahat born Gan, 59, who has served the police for 38 years, holds a Diploma in Police Science (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), a Bachelor Degree of Science in Mathematics and Physics, a Masters in Social Science (Sociology and Anthropology) and a PhD (Universiti Sains Malaysia).
In his speech, Mohmad said he was confident that Gan would use his experience in solving crime cases in the capital.
Describing his new appointment as a big responsibility, Gan said the influx of foreign workers in the capital made his job more challenging than in Penang.
“But I pledge to give my best to ensure that the police will continue to earn the respect of the community,” he said. — Bernama
