IPOH, Feb 28 — Two police officers were charged in the Sessions Court here today with corruption.
ASP Shuib Abdl Samad @ Zainul, 51, who is based at the CID Narcotics division, Kuala Kangsar police headquarters, claimed trial before Judge Madihah Hairullah to three charges involving RM1,100.
On the first count, he is accused of soliciting a monthly payment of RM500 from Tan Tiong An as an inducement to refrain from taking action against the latter for allegedly carrying out a four-digit illegal gaming operation.
Shuib allegedly committed the offence at Restoran Dila Tomyam, No 5, Gerai MPKK Medan Selera, Stesen Keretapi in Jalan Raja Idris, Kuala Kangsar at around 12.30pm on July 5, 2012.
On the second count, he allegedly agreed to accept RM300 monthly from Tan for the same purpose at the same place and date.
Shuib is accused on the third charge of receiving a RM300 bribe from Tan following the latter’s detention on June 12, 2012 on suspicion of being a drug user.
The court set bail at RM10,000 bail with one surety for all the charges and fixed March 27 for re mention.
Meanwhile, Insp Hilmi Suaib, 44, who is also based at the same division faces two charges involving RM2,500.
He is accused of soliciting RM1,500 from Tan as an inducement not to confine him in a lockup on suspicion of being a drug user, and agreeing to accept RM1,000 from Tan for the same purpose.
Hilmi allegedly committed both offences at the CID narcotics division, Kuala Kangsar police headquarters at 12.30pm on June 12, 2012.
The court set bail at RM8,000 with one surety for both charges and fixed March 27 for re-mention. Deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar appeared for the prosecution. — Bernama
