NIBONG TEBAL, Jan 20 — A man was seriously injured after being shot by a gunman in a car in Taman Sintar Indah, Jawi at about 5.20pm today.

Penang police CID chief, SAC Mazlan Kesah said the 40-year-old victim and a friend were waiting in front of a house when a car with two men stopped near them.

“One of the men in the car fired two shots at the victim which hit him on the shoulder and left leg. His friend was, however, unhurt.

“The incident took place so fast and the assailants fled in a Proton Wira,” he told reporters at the incident scene here this evening.

He said the victim who sustained serious injuries had been sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital and was reported to be stable.

Initial investigations found the two suspects in a car were believed to have tailed the victim and his friend before shooting the man in front of the house.

The victim and his friend from Banting, Selangor were believed to have arrived in Penang this morning.

Mazlan said police were investigating the actual motive for the shooting.

“At the moment, police have detained the victim’s friend over confusing and doubtful statements he made.

“Based on our information, the victim’s friend has three criminal records involving forging documents, car theft and drugs,” he said. — Bernama
