PETALING JAYA, Jan 7 — Herald editor Father Lawrence Andrew is due to meet with representatives from the Selangor state government today.

The meeting has been called by the state government as it wants to get a clearer picture of what transpired during a raid by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) on the Bible Society of Malaysia last week.

Selangor state executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs, Sallehin Mukyi, said they had invited Lawrence for a meeting to get his side of the story on the matter.

“I received a detailed report on the matter from Jais on Friday,” Sallehin said.

“In the report, Jais said it decided to carry out its actions following public complaints.

“We want to get a clearer picture of the matter and this is why we have called Lawrence.”

Meanwhile, Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa said the council would submit a report to the Selangor Palace once the investigation into the matter is complete.

The raid on Thursday saw Jais confiscating more than 300 Malay- and Iban-language Bibles that used the word “Allah”.
