GEORGE TOWN, Jan 3 — A man who escaped from the Penang courthouse in October before he could be charged with duping at least five women was arrested near a fast food outlet in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur last night.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief acting Commissioner of Police Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said the suspect, K. Prabaharan, 45, was arrested by a team of police from Bukit Aman and Dang Wangi.
Ho said, acting on information, the police team went to the scene to investigate.
“The suspect tried to escape upon seeing the officers approaching him.
“He, however, could not run far and was subsequently arrested by the officers,” said Ho.
Ho said the man had been taken back to Penang for further investigation.
Prabaharan had in October fled from police custody while waiting to be charged after attending court in Cameron Highlands.
He described himself as a Datuk Seri and doctor in his Facebook postings.
He was supposed to be charged with more than 10 cheating cases after having duped his victims into parting cash and gold.
The names he used to duped the women were Dr Shiva Nair, Dr Ragunathan Nair Krishanan, Dr Ragunathan, Ragu and Keeran Raj.
His escape resulted in a senior woman police officer ASP L. Chandkumary, 56, from Bedong, Kedah, to be charged for negligence in a magistrate’s court here.
