KOTA BARU, Dec 29 — A 23-year-old student of National University of Singapore died after slipping and falling down the side of Gunung Stong (Mount Stong) in Dabong, Kuala Krai yesterday.
His body was found by the search and rescue team this morning.
Officer-in-charge of Jeli fire and rescue station, Soleh Nasir said Lee Jun Jie was enjoying the sunset at the Baha’s Camp, located at the top of the seven-tiered Stong waterfalls, when the mishap occurred at 7pm.
“He was said to have stood on the slippery cliff to enjoy the sunset before falling into the waterfalls below,” Soleh told Bernama today.
He said Lee’s body was found by the search and rescue team about 100 metres from the camp and was taken to Kuala Krai Hospital for post-mortem.
The search and rescue operation to find the victim was mounted with cooperation from police, Civil Defence Department, Rela and forest rangers.
Lee arrived in Dabong yesterday afternoon, together with 22 other students, for a mountain climbing expedition.
The waterfalls in Gunung Stong, which stands at a height of 1433m, are deemed the highest tiered waterfalls in Southeast Asia. — Bernama
