KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Fifty-one people were evacuated in the Pekan district tonight, raising the number of flood evacuees in Pahang to 5,566 from 5,515 this evening.

Terengganu, the other of the east coast states still recovering from the floods, reported 22 people still at a relief centre in the Marang district.

A spokesman of the Pahang Police flood operations room said that as of 9pm, 1,407 families were being housed at 55 relief centres in four districts.

Pekan had the highest number of evacuees, at 4,043, up from 3,992 this evening, at 37 relief centres; followed by Kuantan with 736 at four centres; Maran with 724 at 12 centres and Bera with 63 at two centres.

In Terangganu, the National Security Council portal reported that only one centre remained open in the state, at Marang where 22 people from eight families were being housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Putih.

The evacuees in the Dungun and Kemaman districts returned to their homes this evening.

At the height of the floods, which hit on December 2, more than 20,000 people were moved to relief centres in Kemaman, Dungun, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Setiu and Marang. — Bernama
