KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 6 — A major road in Kemaman and an alternative road to Hulu Terengganu have been closed since yesterday to all vehicles due to severe erosion caused by floodwaters.

Terengganu Public Works Department assistant maintenance engineer Ghazali Sulong said the road was an alternative route between Wakaf Tapai/Tanggol and Kuala Berang and a major road in Cukai, Kemaman, which is Jalan Sulaimani.

“Both of these roads were damaged quite badly, a portion of the bridge at Jalan Wakaf Tapai/Tanggol-Kuala Berang at the Kampung Kuala Kejir bridge has collapsed.

“The road structure of Jalan Sulaimani, which is a main road in Cukai, is also severely damaged by erosion,” he told Bernama, here, today.

He said those from Wakaf Tapai who want to go to Kuala Berang could use the main road, that is Jalan Wakaf Tapai/Ajil-Kuala Berang, while those in Kemaman could use the alternative roads to Cukai.

However, he said, the damage to both roads would be repaired immediately once the floods subside. — Bernama
