PASIR PUTEH, Dec 6 — Residents in Semerak here have been confirmed safe from an ammonia gas leak at a nearby ice factory today.
Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Department chief Wan Baijuri Wan Hassan said nine teams from the Hazardous Materials Unit, headed by Senior Officer 2 Mohd Azlan Zainal from the Kota Baru Fire and Rescue Department, confirmed this after inspecting the factory this evening.
“The reading was at the 5ppm level, and does not affect the people living in the vicinity of the plant,” he told reporters when met at the scene today.
Baijuri said the leak occurred at 11am when the factory tried to repair the piping system for the supply of gas to produce more than 1,000 cubes of ice a day.
