KUANTAN, Dec 6 — The number of evacuees in flood-hit Pahang rose again tonight after having dropped earlier in the day.

The total number of evacuees stood at 39,177 tonight compared to 32,808 in the evening.

A spokesman of the police flood operations room said the evacuees were confined to the eight districts of Kuantan, Pekan, Temerloh and Jerantut (where there has been an increase), Rompin and Maran (where there has been a drop) as well as Lipis and Bera (where there has been no change).

“Kuantan continues to have the highest number of evacuees, at 34,504, all being housed at 41 relief centres,” he told Bernama. 

Pekan has 3,356 evacuees at 24 relief centres; Temerloh, 485 at six centres; Jerantut, 478 at 11 centres; Rompin, 173 at five centres; Maran, 83 at two centres; Bera, 65 at six centres and Lipis, 33 at two centres. 

Meanwhile, several stretches of major roads remain closed due to the floods, among them Jalan Sungai Lembing-Kuantan at Km28, Jalan Kuantan-Segamat at Km72, Jalan Kuantan-Rompin at Km62 and Jalan Temerloh-Bahau at Km14. — Bernama
