TAWAU, Dec 6 — A 24-year-old man who suffered serious burns in a fire set by his estranged brother-in-law early yesterday has died.
Tawau district police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said Darwis Tahang who sustained 80 per cent burns, died at the Tawau General Hospital the same day about 11.30 pm.
"Police will investigate the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said when contacted here today.
In the incident about 8.15 am yesterday, a 52-year-old man allegedly set fire to the house of his estranged wife's family in Taman Semarak here after she refused to reconcile with him.
The victim had tried to stop the man while he was allegedly splashing petrol at the front of the house but slipped and fell, at which instance the latter allegedly lighted the fire which torched him. — Bernama
