KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 — Umno and PAS secretary general Datuk Mustafa Ali and two others today agreed to a mediation to settle the defamation case by the former pertaining to an alleged publication of an article which linked it to the circulation of a pornographic video in a website.
Counsel Zulhazmi Shariff who is representing HarakahDaily.net chief editor Zulkifli Sulong told reporters that Justice Datuk John Louis O'Hara had set January 15 for case management and updates on the mediation process.
Last April 23, Umno filed the suit naming Mustafa and his lawyers as first, second and third defendant.
Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh who represented the party claimed that Mustafa had slandered it through talks and statements which were then posted in www.malaysiakini.com and HarakahDaily.net, and published in The Star newspaper.
Apart from general, special, aggravated and exemplary damages, interests and costs, Umno is also seeking an injunction to restrain the defendants or their agents from publishing any defamatory statements against it, as well as an order to compel the defendants to issue an apology in the newspapers and magazines. — Bernama
