KOTA KINABALU, Nov 24 — Sabah recorded the highest number of welfare aid recipients last year, totalling 75,242 people and involving RM233.7 million, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said today.
This, she said, reflected the priority given by the ministry in helping the needy in Sabah.
Speaking at a dinner with the media here yesterday, she said the ministry was allocated RM2.2 billion under Budget 2014, adding that this reflected the government’s trust and confidence in the ministry to implement programmes towards building a prosperous Malaysian society.
On women’s participation in the employment sector, she hoped it would increase to 55 per cent by 2015 with the implementation of the flexi work arrangement (FWA).
“FWA can be implemented in various forms, like the compressed work week, flexi hour and weekend work, apart from the employers given additional tax deduction,” she added. — Bernama
