KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Umno Youth has slammed PAS for failing to ensure a smooth election and needing two days to recount the votes for the vice-president’s posts.
Its chief, Khairy Jamaluddin (picture) said that opposition parties the DAP and PAS had failed to ensure smooth elections but still wanted to question the election process of other parties, especially Umno.
“How can we trust the DAP and PAS? PAS needed two days to count more than 1,000 votes. This is a shame.
“Don’t lecture us and the EC (Election Commission ) on the election process,” he told reporters after flagging off the ‘Batik Fun Walk 2013’ organised by Budi Penyayang Malaysia Foundation, here today.
PAS Election Committee chairman Asmuni Awi yesterday said the votes for the vice-president’s posts had to be recounted as the votes received by the candidates were close.
Asked about the allegation of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the government brought 40,000 Bangladeshis to vote in the 13th general election (GE13), Khairy said the allegation was unfounded and unproven.
“Allegations made must be supported by solid proof. The general election is an important platform to prove its validity and this can be seen from the failure of the petitions filed.”
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently that she did not believe the allegation by the opposition and denied the involvement of its citizens in GE13. — Bernama
